'Staff vs Students' Game Held at Minnetonka High School in April 2014, part of unique Minnetonka-Ghana Partnership

On April 29, a "Staff vs Students" basketball game was held at MHS..It was a fundraiser  to help raise money for the technology implementation stage of the Minnetonka-Ghana Connection project.  Our thanks to Clear Springs Elementary School Principal Curt Carpenter, for providing details on this unique partnership, which has its ultimate goal to help improve the teaching and learning experience for children in Ghana, while also benefitting our students in the Minnetonka School District tremendously along the way.

"The Minnetonka Public Schools partnership with the schools in Awutu-Mankessim, Ghana began last year when Clear Springs Elementary students helped provide school supplies to schools in Ghana. Clear Springs students each brought in a buck or two to have the privilege of wearing pajamas for a day. Before we knew it, we were able to provide our new friends in Ghana with over $2,000 in learning supplies.

Earlier this year, we held a book drive at Clear Springs that resulted in over 5,000 books being donated to the schools in Awutu-Mankessim. Those books are now in a Ghanaian port and will soon be in the hands of children.

And this January, Clear Springs teacher Delette Lemon and Principal Curt Carpenter had the opportunity to travel to Ghana to strengthen the relationship with the schools in Awutu-Mankessim. The trip was absolutely special. Delette and Curt were part of a larger contingent that included a focus on improving agriculture in Ghana. Please check out the video below to learn more about the partnership.

Next steps in the partnership include communication with our friends via Skype and email.

Please get in touch with me if you have any questions about the Minnetonka-Ghana Connection or if you’d like to be closely involved."

    Hi MGBA families,

Last season one of our girl’s teams participated in playing another Lake Conference team at the Target Center prior to a Timberwolves game.  It was a great experience and the girls got to bond with their team, get in extra playing time, and attend a Timberwolves game.  Please contact Matt Bare for more information.

    ---Kerri Hexum, MGBA, Player Development

    "Hi folks!

Now that the 2013-14 Timberwolves' season has concluded, we are starting to put action plans in place for next season.  For those of you that are interested in getting a head start on reserving an hour of time to play on the Target Center floor prior to a Wolves game next year, we are creating a priority list that will get you first access for selecting a game date and time.  By placing a $100 deposit you will get your name on the priority to have first access for selecting your game when the schedule comes out in late July.

As an example, if your team is interested in playing before the Heat game or wants that 4:00 – 5:00 time slot we strongly encourage putting down a deposit.  I would just need a credit card or check from you to get started.  This deposit is non-refundable and will go towards the purchase of your groups Timberwolves tickets for that game.

This is available for all boys and girls teams in both traveling and in-house.  This is an awesome opportunity to give your kids the experience of a lifetime of playing a game on an NBA floor!  If there are any questions please let me know."
