MGBA Coaching Application

Parent and Paid Coaches Needed:

MGBA annually looks for qualified head and assistant coaches to teach and develop young basketball players. We typically look for:

  • Paid Coaches for 7th and 8th grade, all levels
  • Parent Coaches for all grades & levels

If you are interested, please email the MGBA President, Kim Hoehne, at kimhoehne25@gmail.com to receive additional information and an application form. Please complete an application form regardless if you have coached before or not. Applications must be submitted by early September to be considered for coaching that season, but paid, non-parent coaches are often hired during the summer. The earlier all coaches can submit applications, the better.  

The requirements are:

Experience:

  • Experience playing and/or coaching basketball
  • Experience working with and managing young children (Ages 9-15)

  • Experience managing and dealing with parents

Coaching Responsibilities:

  • Ability to develop and implement a basketball offense and defense

  • Ability to make in game decisions and adjustments

  • Ability to plan and run practices 

  • Coach education/development/resources provided by MGBA

Other Responsibilities:

  •  Per Minnesota State Law, all coaches must complete an accredited concussion course that needs to be renewed every three years. Arranged and paid for by MGBA.
  • All coaches must pass a background check within the last three years.

Time Commitment:

  • Practices: Begins in late September and will last until the last week of February. Teams practice two times per week. Each practice will last approximately 1.5 hours. 
  • Games: 8 - 10 weekend tournament games through the season. No games during the week.
